MossRehab Receives Outstanding Nursing Quality Award

One of Only Six Hospitals in the U.S. to Receive the 2010 ANA Award

Philadelphia, PA, February 16, 2010
MossRehab (part of Albert Einstein Healthcare Network) was one of only six hospitals in the nation this year to receive the American Nurses Association’s (ANA) Award for Nursing Quality based on patient outcomes.  MossRehab nurses were recently honored at the ANA 4th Annual National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators® (NDNQI ®) Data Use Conference for “consistently yielding outstanding patient outcomes that are tied directly to high quality nursing care.”

The NDNQI is considered the nation’s most comprehensive database of nursing-care outcomes measures.  MossRehab demonstrated superior patient outcomes and high nurse job satisfaction on the 18 nursing-sensitive performance indicators tracked by NDNQI, such as hospital-acquired pressure ulcers, patient falls with injury, hospital-acquired infections and nursing staff turnover.
It was reported at the conference before 1,000 nursing and health care quality leaders that NDNQI-participating hospitals have shown significant improvement over the last three years on several key nursing quality indicators:

• Median hospital-acquired pressure ulcer rates on critical care units declined by 40 percent
• Median injury fall rates on rehabilitation units declined by 18 percent

“MossRehab exemplifies the commitment, leadership, data analysis and efficient use of resources that are needed by nursing executives and bedside nurses to produce the best possible patient outcomes,” said ANA President Rebecca M. Patton, MSA, RN, CNOR.  “The NDNQI program is all about using evidence from the reporting of outcomes to improve nursing care practices, staffing and systems for care delivery, and MossRehab has achieved that at a high level.”

“We are honored that MossRehab is only one of six hospitals in the nation to receive this nursing quality award from the ANA,” said Sue McCulley, Clinical Director at MossRehab and Acute Services at Elkins Park.  “Our nurses work hard every day to deliver the highest level of care to our patients, and this recognition from the only professional organization representing the interests of the nation’s 2.9 million registered nurses affirms and celebrates their commitment.”
